Hesed House of Wharton is excited to bring Wharton Grows to the citizens of Wharton. This program is an opportunity for families to open their backyards to enhance the culture, health, and well-being of the local community. This year we plan to extend our gardening knowledge to at least five families— our goal is to provide the materials and knowledge to start a backyard vegetable garden. Families will receive all the supplies needed to grow successful summer and winter gardens.

Our mission is for this initiative to reach far and wide in our community, connecting community members to nature and each other in meaningful and mutually beneficial ways. We plan to purchase as many of our supplies as possible locally from small businesses, and are in conversation with a family from St. Thomas Episcopal Church who wants to partner with us as part of their seedling project. We would love nothing more than for this initiative to become a community-wide gardening project.

Wharton Grows is looking for families to participate, gardeners who would like to dedicate some of their time sharing their gardening knowledge with families and, we’re looking for hard working volunteers to help build garden beds.
